Category: Best Hardware Store
A Canadian Success Story

Home Hardware was founded in 1964 by a group of 120 independent hardware dealers in Ontario. Their goal was to obtain advantage of quantity purchasing to compete with any form of competition that might arise.

The company grew in leaps and bounds, quickly becoming the Canadian Success Story it is today, with over 1,000 stores from coast to coast. There have been many changes over the years, but Home Hardware dealers have been able to maintain their hometown, customer friendly service, while their collective buying power enables them to stay competitive in a competitive market.

For the 12th year in a row, Home Hardware has been voted #1 Hardware Store by the Era-Banner readers. This speaks volumes about the way these stores have been active in our community, sponsoring local teams, charities and events. In true family tradition, many of the stores pass from generation to generation, as is the case with three of the stores in the Era-Banner readership area.

Newmarket Home Hardware, located at 828 Davis Drive, was opened in 1978 by Gerry Langdon and is today owned and operated by his daughters Deborah Judges and Lee Cullingham. They have an outstanding team of employees including Leešs daughters Christina and Kendra.

Aurora Home Hardware, located at 289 Wellington Street, was opened by Stuart and Doreen Barfitt in 1970 and is today operated by their sons Russ, Randy, Rob and their families. They too, are proud of the great group of employees they have working for them.

Bradford Home Hardware, located at 30 Dissette Street, was opened by Jim Schaefer in 1978 and is operated by Jim, wife Elsa and an excellent staff that includes their daughter Holly and son Jim.
